Biography:

Susan Sensei began training in 1977 in St. Francis Hall JKA Club with John Mc Cormack Sensei. Her kyu gradings were taken with Kawazoe Sensei.

She joined the University College Cork Karate Club (UCCKC) in 1982 which at the time was also a JKA club.
Whilst studying in UCC, Susan obtained her shodan and nidan under Andy Sherry Sensei, and was choosen to travel to Cairo with the Irish team for the World Championships in 1983 and was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to see Yahara Sensei and Osaka Sensei, as well as many other now senior instructors, competing there.
During this time she was also selected as one of 10 UCC Sports Stars on 3 occasions.

Susan has represented Ireland on many occasions in both European and World Championships.She was KUI National Kumite Champion 7 times and Kata Champion on 4 occasions.

She has been coaching the UCCKC since 1988 and has also run several other clubs during this time.

During this period, her sandan was awarded by Endoeda Sensei and Kasa Sensei, and in 1995 she achieved her Yondan under Kawazoe Sensei.
At this time she also began studying Kobujutsu under Julian Mead Sensei and has graded to Shodan in this disipline.

In 2017, Susan Sensei handed the batton of UCCKC Chief instructor to Steve Sensei, following a memorable, and impressive time in UCC of competitive and technical achievements, and having inspired uncounted numbers of UCC students to become karatekaxz, and take it with them into their lives around the world.
