Dojo Etiquette

  • Bow when entering and leaving the Dojo
  • No shoes to be worn in the Dojo Unless absolutely necessary
  • No gear bags in the Dojo
  • No talking during the class
  • When lining out students must always line out in order of grade. The most senior students at the right and the most junior students on the left. Lining out should be done quickly and with the minimum of fuss
  • At the end of the class the instructor leaves the floor first, followed by the most senior grade, one by one down to the most junior grade.
  • If you arrive late for class kneel down at the side where you can be seen and wait for the person taking the class to say you can join, at which point you first bow and then line out at the back of the class at the end of the line.
  • All colour belt students must wear a karate Gi while training
  • Your Karate Gi should be as clean as relatively possible at all times
  • Finger and toe nails must be kept clean and short
  • No jewellery to be worn during training. If you cannot remove a ring cover it with tape
